How to play FreeCell
FreeCell is the solitaire game where nothing is hidden. All 52 cards are dealt face up from the start, so every game is a puzzle you can think through. Calm FreeCell uses big cards, no timer and unlimited Undo.
The goal
Move all the cards to the four foundation spaces on the top right. Each foundation holds one suit, built up from Ace to King.
The layout
- Eight columns holding all 52 cards, face up.
- Four free cells on the top left. Each can hold one card while you make room.
- Four foundations on the top right.
Moving cards
- In the columns, put a card on one that is one higher and the other color — a red 6 on a black 7.
- Any card can go into an empty free cell, and any card can go into an empty column.
- Aces go to the foundations, then the 2 of the same suit, and so on up to the King.
Tap a card and it moves to the best place, or drag it where you want it.
Moving several cards at once
Officially you move one card at a time, but the game lets you move a whole ordered group in one step when there are enough empty free cells and columns to do it one card at a time. The more free space you have, the longer the group you can move.
Game numbers
Calm FreeCell uses the same numbered deals as the classic Windows FreeCell, from 1 to 32000. You can type in a number from the menu to replay a favorite deal or try one a friend mentioned. Deal 11982 — famously the only one of the original 32,000 that cannot be won — is skipped.
Helpful buttons
- Undo takes back any number of moves.
- Hint shows a good next move.
- Go back to a winnable point in the menu rescues a game that has gone wrong.
- Automatic moves of cards to the foundations can be switched on or off.
